In the place where Parque dos Monges is currently located the monks of the Cistercian Order founded the city of Alcobaça, where they settled. Parque dos Monges is simultaneously an Environmental Park and a Zoo, an Adventure Park and a Cultural Park, and it aims at recreating the way the monks of this religious Order lived.
There are various activities in this park: paintball, canoeing, climbing, sliding, orientation, and visiting the Museum of Confectionery Products, among others. Parque dos Monges comprises programmes for children as well as seniors, schools, and companies.
