Information:
Sopa da Pedra is a traditional dish from Almeirim, which originated in a legend involving a ‘crafty gluttonous’ friar. This is a rich and thick soup made from an assortment of cooked deli meats, beans, cabbages, potatoes, carrots, and, of course, stone. The stone is placed at the bottom of the bowl and, after eating the soup, it is put away for the next time you make the soup.
The festival dedicated to this speciality takes place in Parque das Tilias, near the Bullring of Almeirim, every year between the months of August and September.
